Our position on the CEC elections

DemBloc would like to congratulate the delegates elected to the inaugural CEC and we look forward to a timely progress towards local branch formation to enable them to fight elections in their local regions this coming May. We have, however, listened to concerns from many quarters and express our own, with procedural decisions taken before and during the election process. The use of the STV Imperiali system in a 2 seat election by region, is proven to be biased and therefore casts a shadow on the whole election as being unfairly weighted in favour of Slates.

The membership was promised a member-led party, from the bottom up, which the slates only delivered in part, at the detriment of many independent candidates. We have listened to increasing concerns that the factionalism would end, but are dismayed to see that only “The Many” slate candidates made Officer Positions within the CEC. Unity within a member-led Party cannot be achieved if the slates continue and the majority votes en bloc. We hope and appeal to the CEC to redress the imbalance for the members. DemBloc will continue to listen to and voice members’ concerns.

We published this around the opening of the crowd editing tool to guide members on amending the four draft documents.

Our founding conference voting guide

This document is coming soon, it will guide sortioned delegates on the votes that matter.

Like hundreds of thousands of people across the UK, the news of Jeremy and Zarah announcing the Your Party founding conference has given us new hope. This is a once-in-a-generation moment for the left to build a home outside of Labour, without the vicious self-interested politics of Starmer and Blair.

We can create something more than just a political party, we can create a movement that promises to change Britain for good. But without first ensuring that our new political home is democratic, member-led and rooted in the needs of the people, we will not be able to promise genuine political change. The Democratic Bloc is a campaign getting ready to build for the conference, to put forward concrete democratic proposals and to bring the new would-be members together around a unifying, open and positive vision for how this new party should be run.

The Democratic Bloc is a campaign founded by a group of would-be members and will be led by anyone that wants to take part. We began with a set of core areas of focus that we thought will define the future of the new left party – 2025 conference, running the party, preparing for Parliament and local politics.

From that basis, we wrote a set of amendments that speak to the four documents published by the Your Party leadership.

Our amendments were taken to our members, they edited them and then ratified the amendments with a 100% accept vote. We are united, ready for founding conference.

What is The Democratic Bloc?

A once-in-a-generation chance for the people to find their voice and break from establishment politics.
