Statement of principles and pledges for candidates for the CEC elections

We believe that Your Party should be, as originally promised, member-led.

Up to now many of the democratic processes, conference and decisions have not been and we need a Central Executive Committee that will redress that balance.

The factional battles headed up by Jeremy and Zarah cannot be allowed to continue on the CEC

As a candidate in these elections I pledge:-

  • To avoid any tendencies towards sectarianism and work in the best interests of uniting the CEC and the party

  • Push for establishing branches without further delay and to give the elected officials of those branches access to their branch data and, if possible under GDPR, the relevant parts of the data of the 800,000 sign ups.

  • Decentralise funding giving branches 50% of membership funds with a formula on how they are fairly allocated to be decided upon

  • Not to assist those on the CEC who wish to push through decisions that should be made by all members, such as the creation of a new position of ‘Parliamentary Spokesperson’

  • Pledge to seek consensus on the nomination of the general secretary and push for any candidate to have the backing of 2/3 of the CEC before appointment. I further pledge to push for a rule change making the general secretary an elected role by the membership

  • Commitment to upholding conference’s decision on allowing Dual Membership and to stop the bureaucratic witch hunts and blocking of candidates.

  • Commitment to ensuring a transparent and accountable CEC where all votes and discussions are minuted with a clear indication of how each member spoke and voted

  • Commitment to establishing very quickly, a mechanism for branches to submit motions to the CEC and to conference and a transparent process for how they are dealt with and by whom
