Why we are launching The Democratic Bloc

Like hundreds of thousands of people across the UK, the news of Jeremy and Zarah announcing the Your Party founding conference has given us new hope. This is a once-in-a-generation moment for the left to build a home outside of Labour, without the vicious self-interested politics of Starmer and Blair.

We can create something more than just a political party, we can create a movement that promises to change Britain for good. But without first ensuring that our new political home is democratic, member-led and rooted in the needs of the people, we will not be able to promise genuine political change. The Democratic Bloc is a campaign getting ready to build for the conference, to put forward concrete democratic proposals and to bring the new would-be members together around a unifying, open and positive vision for how this new party should be run.

The Democratic Bloc is a campaign founded by a group of would-be members and will be led by anyone that wants to take part. We have a set of core areas of focus that we think will define the future of the new left party – 2025 conference, running the party, preparing for Parliament and local politics. Each of these areas of focus will have their discussion groups and will be open to anyone that signs up to the campaign, where we will elect someone to write our rule book proposals for the conference.

A once-in-a-generation chance for the people to find their voice and break from establishment politics.

Who are we?

We are socialists working together to ensure that the new left party is genuinely democratic and grassroots. We want to form a network of activists who can collectively build and articulate democratic demands ahead of the founding conference of the party.

Together, with your help, we will:

Develop proposals for measures that will ensure democracy throughout the new party.

Produce videos, literature, a website and social media to convince attendees at the founding conference.

Run fringe events at the new party conference.

Prepare a slate of candidates for the national executive committee election.

We need your help. With your input we will refine these proposals, create new ones and write them as motions ready for national conference. We will need you to build this campaign, organise a groundswell for open, democratic politics at the founding conference and vote.

Together we can ensure that the new party delivers for everyone.

Together we can ensure this party is ready to change our country!
