Building the 2025 conference
Holding a founding conference with no existing party structures is a huge task. Patience will be needed, but simple, workable arrangements can make participation meaningful and democratic.
→ Currently, there are no local parties to send delegates, no elected national executive, no elected conference arrangement committee – this is a big undertaking.
→ Therefore, our initial proposals for how this conference should run are deliberately kept simple and easy to implement.
Participation
A membership structure must be announced before the conference and only members may attend and vote.
People who wish to participate must become members and every member should be invited to participate.
Every member should pay a conference fee which will be set depending on whether they would like to attend online or in-person. Everyone who pays this fee should have the right to vote.
→ We want to see conference agree a position to place the wealth of society and the power in society in the hands of the people.
→ This must be our guiding position from which
our organisational structures and policy programme follow.

Motions, amendments & online portal
Every member should have the right to submit motions and amendments. There should be a threshold and seconding period, managed through an online system accessible to all members.
→ The first leadership elections should involve every member - whether they are attending conference or not. The understandable limitations of conference cannot be allowed to limit the engagement of every member in the most important election in the founding process. You can read our full leadership election proposals here.
→ Members must lead on compositing. Any staff that are employed by the new party should facilitate the compositing of motions. Lay members must be given genuine control over shaping their proposals.
