Amendments to the standing orders
Amendment Option 1:
SELECT (A): ‘
Party conferences shall be attended by delegates elected by party branches, organised sections, affiliates or any combination thereof as defined or required by that conference’s remit.’
Explainer: Delegates should attend conference funded by their branch with the democratic mandate of their branch.
Amendment Option 2:
SELECT: (A)
‘Voting on matters at party conferences shall be reserved for conference attendees. All attendee votes shall be made publicly available through online party systems, so that they can be held to account by their local parties.’
Explainer: Voting should be done by those with a mandate, not just those with the most free time to watch a conference. Our delegates should be empowered to vote on behalf of their branches.
Amendment Option 3:
SELECT (A):
‘Motions to conferences are brought by local parties, organised sections and affiliates, via a vote of their members, and selected for hearing at conferences according to a vote of eligible conference voters.’
Explainer: We believe in collective decision making and democracy in branches - these should be the primary organisations that submit motions.
Amendment Option 4:
SELECT (B):
‘There shall be no limits on the number of terms a party member may serve in public or national/regional party office.’
Explainer: Members should be free to select whoever they think is the best fit for an office through a democratic vote.
Amendment Option 5:
SELECT (A):
‘Policy development on a local issue is initiated and voted on democratically by members at a meeting of their local party, affiliates or organised sections, after deliberation at the local party assembly.’
Explainer: Policy should be led by the grassroots at the local level.
